| We have a strong capability in assessing financial losses on behalf of insurance companies and are privileged to count among our clients most of the major insurers in Mauritius. Our strength in this area lies in our thorough understanding of the application of the terms of an insurance contract to financial loss claims combined with an effective methodology to quantify losses and our ability to issue timely and comprehensive reports to insurers. But, just as importantly, is our significant hands-on experience on the field.
We can handle financial losses resulting from a wide variety of insured perils including burglary, cyclone, flood, fidelity guarantee, bankers blanket policy, money, goods in transit, fire and consequential loss. Financial loss claims entrusted to us by insurers to date range from Rs 50,000 to Rs 20 million but we can cope with larger claims falling within our areas of expertise. We have worked closely with reputable firms of overseas loss adjusters from United Kingdom, South Africa and India on several assignments and have been closely involved in most of the recent significant losses (some exceeding Rs 200 million) reported in Mauritius.
We act with utmost objectivity and tact when conducting financial loss adjustment surveys and ensure that we are seen as acting in all fairness to all parties within the framework of their rights and obligations under the insurance contract. As part of our assignment, we make informed recommendations on measures to mitigate the risk of future losses and always make ourselves available to participate in discussions with insurers and insured parties to explain our findings and conclusions reached.
All assignments are placed under the responsibility of a partner and staffed by mature and specially-trained members of our team. Irrespective of the size or nature of a loss claim, we guarantee immediate attendance at an insured’s premises as soon as a claim is notified to us and are available at all times including week-ends and public holidays. We ensure prompt follow-up of information from the respective parties, keep them informed of progress at all times and aim to conclude our final report and assessment so as to minimise the lead time between notification and settlement of a claim.
By virtue of our training as accountants and auditors, we have developed sharp forensic and investigative skills which enable us to detect fraudulent claims and/or claims which are artificially inflated. Over the past years, the methodology adopted by our firm has enabled us to uncover such practices whenever they have arisen and these have been reported to insurers.
We are able to provide a “one-stop shop” to insurers in the assessment of losses requiring multi-disciplinary skills by calling on our network of relationships with reputable specialists (Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Lawyers, etc.). Our firm is able to coordinate the work carried out by them in order to issue a final report to insurers on all aspects of a claim having regard to policy terms and conditions.
